Development, Land Use & Home Rule

In the free state of Florida, you don’t get any say over massive development. The state has been curbing home rule for years now, taking away our ability to try every tool we can to make this place affordable for everyday working people, and we have to stand strong against it and start fighting back. Once we do, we think big and we make moves like public housing so the problems don’t happen again.

What we need to do:

  1. Local Control Over Local Development: Repeal the law that stripped our county's power to say no to bad development.
  2. Housing For The People: Build publicly owned housing for teachers, nurses, and service workers, not just luxury towers.

How we do it:

  1. Local Control Over Local Development: Repeal HB 399 (2026)'s restrictions on local development review, fees, and compatibility standards; redesign density bonuses to favor nonprofit/public developers with deeper affordability requirements.
  2. Housing For The People: Authorize a Florida Housing Finance Corporation pilot to build mixed-income housing on already-inventoried public land.
