Democracy For All
In 2020, half a million dollars got spent on “ghost candidates” on our ballots: fake campaigns designed to trip up voters with misleading ads fueled by untraceable donors. A handful of people saw consequences, but the system that let them get away with it stands; reversing the will of voters in 2018, making it harder to vote by mail, forcing us to reach a 60% threshold for citizen ballot initiatives. Entrenched politicians don’t get to shove democracy into a box that’s convenient to them, and we have to make them undo it.
What we need to do:
- Let the People Vote: Undo the barriers to ballot initiatives, restore a simple majority for amendments, and end the pay-to-vote requirement for past convictions.
- End Pay-to-Play Politics: Close the stock-trading loophole and shine a light on dark money in our elections.
- Take Power Back From Career Politicians: Win an independent redistricting commission and extend public campaign financing to state races.
How we do it:
- Let the People Vote: Repeal HB 1205 (2025); undo the 60% constitutional amendment threshold created by a 2006 amendment that itself passed with only 57.78%; repeal SB 7066 (2019)'s felony fines-and-fees voting requirement.
- End Pay-to-Play Politics: Extend the 2026 SAVE Act's stock-trading disclosure to state legislative candidates; require disclosure of the true source behind dark-money contributions routed through shell groups.
- Take Power Back From Career Politicians: Create an independent redistricting commission by joint resolution; extend Florida's existing gubernatorial/cabinet public financing program to legislative races.
