What we need to do:
- Stop Reckless Development: Repeal the law blocking stronger rebuilding rules after a hurricane and stop the state from weakening wetlands protections.
- Defend the Everglades and Our Coasts: Fight new offshore drilling, end sugarcane field burning, and fund buying land to protect our water.
- Protect Clean Energy: Lock in rooftop solar rates so families who go solar keep what they were promised.
How we do it:
- Stop Reckless Development: Repeal or sunset SB 180 (2025/2026), which bars all 67 counties from stronger post-storm land-use rules through 2027; condition any state takeover of Clean Water Act Section 404 wetlands permitting on maintaining current standards.
- Defend the Everglades and Our Coasts: Pass a resolution opposing new Eastern Gulf drilling leases; require a phased end to pre-harvest sugarcane burning (400,000 acres/year); fund roughly 100,000 more acres of Everglades Agricultural Area land acquisition.
- Protect Clean Energy: Codify current net-metering compensation rates into statute instead of leaving them to utility-commission rulemaking.
